Spot Light versus Wide Area Sensing

System Evolution

A unique aspect of Mirage’s solution is the ability to cover hundreds of acres of terrain an hour. To accomplish this task, Mirage equips the GPSAR systems with both Spot Light Mode and Wide Area Mode.

Wide Area Mode quickly and efficiently provides a rough preview of large, multiple acre terrains by identifying suspected areas of interest from pristine areas.  Operation in wide area mode is for area reduction or “foot print reduction ”.  Using wide area mode, the aircraft moves in straight lines across the ground in a tiled pattern. It is capable of delivering 3-Dimensional images of the subsurface.

Spot Light Mode is used to characterize and identify the underground anomalies found by footprinting. The aerial vehicle flies completely around the area of interest which generates a 3D image of subsurface items. This allows recording of size, depth and location for target characterization.
